4. Analysis tools and advertising

Google Analytics

This website uses functions of the web analytics service Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a service provided by Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

Google Analytics uses what are referred to as ‘cookies’. These are text files, which are stored on your computer and allow how you use our website to be analysed. The information generated by the cookie on how you use our website is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

Google Analytics cookies are usually stored based on Sec. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in analysing user behaviour in order to optimize both its website and its advertising.

IP Anonymisation

We have IP anonymisation enabled on this website. This ensures that Google truncates your IP address within the member states of the European Union, or other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area prior to transmission to the US. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transferred to a Google server in the US and truncated there. Google uses this information to evaluate how you use this website on behalf of its operator, in order to compile reports on website activity to provide the website operator with website and internet-related services. The IP address transferred by your browser as a part of the Google Analytics service is not merged with other data from Google.

Browser Plugin

You can reject the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser; we would like to point out that doing so may limit your ability to use all of the features on this website to the full. Downloading and installing the browser plugin available from the link below also allows you to prevent the data the cookie generates on how you use our website (incl. your IP address) from being transferred to Google and Google processing this data: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.

Objecting to data collection

You can prevent Google Analytics collecting your data by clicking on the link below. This sets an opt-out cookie, which prevents your data being collected when you subsequently visit to our website: Disabling Google TagManager.

Please visit the Google Privacy Policy at: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=en for more information on how to handle Google Analytics user data.

Please refer to the Google privacy policy at https://www.google.de/intl/en/policies/privacy for further information on how user data is processed.

Contract data processing

We have entered into a contract data processing agreement with Google and implement the strict requirements in full laid down by the German data protection authorities when using Google Analytics.

Demographic characteristics in Google Analytics

This website uses functions of the “demographic characteristics” of Google Analytics. As a result, reports can be prepared that contain statements on the age, gender and interests of visitors to the website. This data originates from interest-based advertising from Google and visitor data from third parties. This data cannot be assigned to any one specific person. You can disable this feature at any time by changing the ad settings in your Google Account, or generally prohibit Google Analytics collecting your data as outlined in the section on “Objecting to data collection”.

Google Analytics Remarketing

Our websites leverage the features of Google Analytics Remarketing combined with the cross-device capabilities of Google AdWords and DoubleClick. Google Analytics is a service provided by Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.
This feature allows the Google Analytics Remarketing ad groups to be linked to the cross-device features of Google AdWords and Google DoubleClick. In this way, interest-based, personalised advertising messages which have been customised to you based on your previous usage and surfing behaviour on one device (e.g. mobile phone) can also be displayed on another of your devices (e.g. tablet or PC).

Once you have given your consent, Google will link your web and app browsing history to your Google Account for this purpose. That way, the same personalised advertising messages can appear on any device you sign in to with your Google Account.

To support this feature, Google Analytics collects Google-authenticated IDs from users who are temporarily linked to our Google Analytics data to define and create audiences for cross-device ad promotion.

You can permanently opt out of cross-device remarketing/targeting by disabling personalised advertising in your Google Account; to do so click on the follow this link: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb/.

The aggregation of the data collected in your Google Account is subject to your consent alone, which you can provide or revoke at Google (Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR). The collection of data for data collection operations that are not merged into your Google Account (e.g. because you do not have a Google Account or have objected to its being merged) take place subject to Sec. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The legitimate interest arises from the fact that the website operator has an interest in the anonymous analysis of website visitors for advertising purposes.

For more information and the data protection provisions, please see the Google privacy policy at: https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/.

Google AdWords and Google Conversion Tracking

This website uses Google Ads. Google Ads is an online advertising programme from Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (“Google”).

We use what is referred to as conversion tracking as part of Google Ads. When you click on an ad placed by Google, a conversion tracking cookie is set. Cookies are small text files which the web browser stores on the user’s computer. These cookies lose their validity after 30 days and are not used to personally identify users. If the user visits certain pages on this website and the cookie has not yet expired, both Google and the website site operator can recognize that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to this page.

Each Google Ad customer receives a different cookie. These cookies cannot be tracked through Ads customers’ websites. The information gathered using the conversion cookie is used to generate conversion statistics for Ads advertisers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers are told the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a conversion tracking tag page. They do not receive any information that personally identifies users however. If you do not want to participate in tracking, you can opt-out of it by simply disabling the Google Conversion Tracking cookie under User Preferences in your browser. Doing so stops you being included in the conversion tracking statistics.

The storage of conversion cookies takes place subject to Sec. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in analysing user behaviour in order to optimize both its website and its advertising.

For more information about Google AdWords and Google Conversion Tracking, see the Google Privacy Policy at: https://www.google.de/policies/privacy/.

You can set your browser to inform you that cookies are being used. You can also enable cookies in individual cases only, enable the acceptance of cookies in specific cases or generally rule out the use of cookies altogether and automatically delete them when you close your browser. If you disable cookies, it may limit your ability to use this website to its full extent.

Google Tag Manager

This website uses Google Tag Manager. This service allows website tags to be managed over an interface. Google Tool Manager only implements tags. This means: Cookies are not used and personal data is not collected. Google Tool Manager triggers other tags, which, in turn, may collect data. However, Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If disabled at domain or cookie level, it still remains active for all tracking tags as far as they are implemented with Google Tag Manager.

5. Newsletter

Newsletter Data

If you would like to subscribe to the newsletter we offer on this website, we need an email address from you, and need information that confirms that you are the owner of the email address you have provided and wish to opt in to receive the newsletter. We do not collect any additional data or only on a voluntary basis. We use this data exclusively for the delivering the requested information and do not divulge it to third parties.

The legality of the data processing operations we have already performed up to the point of you revoking your consent remains unaffected.

We save the data you have provided for subscribing to the newsletter until you cancel your subscription, after which we delete it. Data stored with us for other purposes (e.g. email addresses for the members area) remain unaffected by this.

6. Plugins and Tools

Facebook Pixel

Our website uses the visitor action pixel for conversion measurement from Facebook, Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”).

This allows the behaviour of page visitors to be tracked after they have been redirected to the provider’s website when they click on a Facebook ad. This allows the effectiveness of Facebook advertisements to be evaluated for statistical and market research purposes and future advertising measures to be optimized.

The data collected is anonymous for us as the operator of this website, and we cannot draw any conclusions about the identity of users. However, Facebook does store and process the data thus making a connection to the respective user profile possible. Facebook can also use the data for its own advertising purposes in accordance with the Facebook Data Usage Policy. This allows Facebook to place advertisements on Facebook pages and outside of Facebook. As the site operator, we cannot influence the use of the data.

You can find more information on the protection of your privacy in the Privacy Policy from Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.

You can also disable the Custom Audiences remarketing function in the Ad Settings section at: https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences/?entry_product=ad_settings_screen. You have to be logged in to Facebook to do so.

If you do not have a Facebook account, you can opt out of user based advertising from Facebook on the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance website: http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices

If you use our website on different computers/browsers, you need to setup the “Do Not Track Header” for each of these computers/browsers separately.
Detailed instructions containing information about your browser can be found at: https://www.hotjar.com/opt-out
